A couple things.... I have a lot of homework! But, I am grateful because I am learning all sorts of new vocabulary - and it is very useful at the hospital! Today was another lovely day with the kids and the patients. I just have to talk about something that I absolutely love about the kids....their smiles! Oh it just makes me so happy every single day. They can't speak, can't walk, can't feed themselves, can't really do anything - but man these kids can smile. Take Perlita for example... the cutest girl in the world - huge beautiful eyes, long dark eyelashes, perfect skin, and multiple sclerosis. I was giving her her amazingly delicious mixture of bread, chocolate milk, and banana (all mixed together)... and after almost every bite I was rewarded with a humongous toothy smile. It makes it all completely worth it. Even if they spew their mashed beans all over my scrubs... if they smile afterwards then I really couldn't care less. SO CUTE!
In the clinic today we saw a lot of women... one of whom had no idea that she was 5 months pregnant. She just came in because she was having some stomach pains and SORPRESA - her family is about to go from 4 people to 5. Asi es la vida.
I am visited by bloody shrimp nearly every day. Yep... it's like clockwork. In the afternoon there is usually a knock at the door and I open it to find some Guatemalans swinging bloody HUGE shrimp in my face. I have yet to have any desire to buy one. I'm sure if I do have the urge to buy I will have an opportunity very soon. Probably tomorrow.
I have been discussing with my new friend Cory that our hostel would be the perfect place for a reality show. Really. Perfect! Someday soon I am going to write about all of the people there... so stay tuned!
I'm going to institute at 7:30 so I need to go find some dinner in the calle. Don't worry, I'll avoid the bloody shrimp.
So glad you're enjoying yourself and learning so much! The kids you work with sound adorable!!
